Dr. Amira Abdelaziz

Dr. Amira Abdel-Aziz is a distinguished data science and artificial intelligence expert with over two decades of experience spanning academia, banking, and technology sectors. With a unique multicultural background that began in Germany and educational experiences across Egypt and the USA, she brings a global perspective to her work.
Dr. Abdel-Aziz holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Philipps-Universität Marburg, where her research on "Preferences in Case-Based Reasoning" earned recognition including a Best Paper Award at ICCBR 2013. Her academic credentials also include a Master's in Information Systems from the German University in Cairo and a B.Sc. in Communication and Electrical Engineering, where she graduated with distinction.
Currently serving as a Senior Leader of Data/AI & Fintech Innovation at the Central Bank of Egypt, she plays a pivotal role in driving data literacy, fostering collaborations between the Central Bank of Egypt and other central banks and financial institutions, and working on influential national projects to promote fintech innovation, Open Banking and Open Finance. Her expertise is further demonstrated through her concurrent positions as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Coventry University, Prince Edward Island University, Saxony Egypt University, and German International University where she teaches Artificial Intelligence, MIS, Computing Skills, and Machine Learning for business application courses respectively.
Her career trajectory showcases a powerful blend of technical expertise and leadership, having previously headed the Data Science & Advanced Analytics division at the Central Bank of Egypt and managed a data science team at the Commercial International Bank. Her international work experience includes a role as a Data Scientist at Data Transition Services GmbH in collaboration with Deutsche Telekom, where she specialized in Big Data Analysis and Machine Learning.
She also serves as a Council Member of Global Women in AI, as a key leader in the organization’s mission to foster inclusive AI, empower women across sectors, and shape ethical frameworks that ensure technology and serves society equitably. She will contribute to GWAI’s think tank initiatives that bridge the gap between public and private sectors, while helping to establish pathways to leadership and powerful networks that support women’s growth in the AI sector. Dr. Amira represents GWAI in an official capacity as a Council Member, helping to drive GWAI’s vision of creating a world where women drive AI innovation and lead future-focused organizations.
Dr. Amira has recently participated as a global AI expert in contribution of coursework in a certification of “Certified Responsible AI Practitioner” by Association for Responsible AI, as well as contribution in the course of “AI in Financial Services” by Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance (University of Cambridge Judge Business School).
Dr. Amira has participated in numerous national and international expert panel discussions on various topics related to AI in financial services; the different opportunities, value and challenges. She actively participates as a speaker in many global conferences, sharing her knowledge and expertise in how to harness the power of AI in banking and the outlook on future trends and applications. She also actively participates in distinct knowledge exchange workshops with other central banks around the world. Dr. Amira is also a member in the Central Bank Research Association (CEBRA), a member in the Expert Network on Data at Network of Greening the Financial System (NGFS), and a research member in the RiskLab at University of Toronto. The diverse experiences and capabilities complement Dr. Amira’s technical proficiencies in data science and AI tools, making her a versatile professional in today's global technology landscape.
