SFF 2022 | microPensions: The New $15 Trillion Opportunity
3 Nov, 03:30PM at the Knowledge Plenary, SFF
Over 1.8 billion self-employed workers, who constitute between 70 and 95 percent of the total workforce across Asia, Africa and Latin America, are not eligible for pension benefits. Of them, over 1.2 billion, young, economically active workers can immediately afford to save but are not doing so due to a variety of supply-side barriers and demand-side constraints. If even a quarter of these workers begin saving $1 a day for their old age, they could collectively generate $15 trillion in new long-term savings within the next decade. In this session, leading pension and financial inclusion experts from Asia, Africa and Latin America will discuss the supply and demand-side challenges in reaching the 1.2bn LMI segments. The panel will also share their experiences with using technology to make small-ticket pensions and insurance secure, affordable and inclusive for lower income segments, and commercially sustainable and scalable for governments and mainstream financial institutions.
