Synopsis:
Robert was the first person in his village to own a laptop and built the first Digital Learning Hub in his community. He designed his own degree program at the University of Oklahoma, graduating as the first person with a degree in African Development Engineering and a minor in Entrepreneurship. Despite nearly dropping out of school due to financial hardships, he became the top student in Uganda, winning scholarships for his education. In this talk, Robert shares how Maarifasasa, which started as a summer project in a family garage, has upskilled over 5,000 youths in digital skills and helped nearly 1000 youths find digital jobs post-COVID-19. The name Maarifasasa comes from the Swahili words 'Maarif' (Knowledge) and 'Sasa' (Now), embodying the mission to make knowledge accessible now.
