Synopsis:
Well-developed capital market infrastructure has played a critical role in unlocking investments to fund and catalyse innovation. While some African stock markets face liquidity challenges, there early signs of coordinated efforts. One such project is the African Exchanges Linkage Project (AELP). In its initial stage, the project aims to create linkages between 7 African capital markets that represent >90% of Africa’s market capitalisation.
This session explored:
- What can be the near term and long-term impact of projects such as AELP?
- What are the key initiatives that the CMA (Rwanda) and other regional authorities considering to drive investments?
- What are lessons learned from other capital markets in the world and how can these be deployed to cater to the unique challenges that the continent faces?
