Synopsis:
In 2023, Africa accounted for 48% of the 1.6bn globally registered mobile money account and 70% of 85bn transaction volume, proving to be a leading figure in leveraging digital tools to provide and improve financial services. However, the benefits of digital technology are not spreading as far and wide as it should; Africa is lagging behind the global average of 76% in account ownership in 2021 with the average for Sub-Saharan at 55%. This session focused on how Africa can fully embrace the increased digitalisation of its economics.
